Dongzi relies upon Xijun’s debt collections for providing cardiac treatment to the former’s father, the years of a cold father-son relationship and an unbearable life leaving him filled with conflicted emotions. His only reprieve is Jiu’er, a young woman capable of comforting his restless agitation. However, Jiu’er was once married to Xijun’s boss, and the two of them, no longer able to bear it, resolve to leave. On the eve of their departure, Dongzi can’t abandon his father, and—as providence would have it—the next day, Jiu’er goes to the hospital looking for Dongzi, but he isn’t there, and instead witnesses the death of his father. Jiu’er frantically searches the streets for Dongzi, where she is killed by Xijun via car accident. In one night, Dongzi loses two important people.
